Central Valley is a leading, diversified, top 100 U.S. building supply company that has proudly served professional builders and vineyard operators in Northern California since 1955. A regional industry leader with over $100 million in annual sales, we work side by side with the passionate developers, builders, framers, and farmers who make Napa Valley and the surrounding areas into places we want to call home.
In total, we have 5 warehouses, 41 acres of inventory, 55 delivery vehicles, and 2 fully stocked production yards that sell over 100 million board feet each year. Together, our Family of Companies supply some of the region’s best-built projects and help leading builders and vineyard operators grow their businesses.
Our commitment to our customers is this: We make it easy for you to consistently and reliably get what you want, when you want it, so you can make the next moment truly matter.
Central Valley’s family of companies includes Central Valley in Healdsburg, St. Helena, Napa, American Canyon, and Woodland; Foster Lumber Yards in Fairfield and Vallejo; and Caseywood in Grass Valley. We are proud to have been able to acquire the latter two companies in recent years. Both Foster Lumber Yard and Caseywood are fantastic, family-owned companies with generations-long legacies that share our core values of community and quality. They are helping us to achieve our goal of supporting customers across Northern California.
Robert “Pat” Patterson Sr. and his wife, Evy, founded Central Valley Builders Supply in 1955. The name 'Central Valley Builders Supply' was born out of geography, as they strived to be at the center of the Napa Valley and surrounding communities. The first store opened on Main Street in St. Helena, in the heart of Napa Valley, with one truck and one forklift.
Pat and Evy's son, Robert E. "Bob" Patterson Jr., took over the helm in 1973. Under his leadership, Central Valley Builders Supply expanded to include our Napa and Woodland locations.
Bob stepped down from running the company, and his wife, Kathleen, became President. She is now Chairman of the Board.
In 2003 Bob and Kathleen's son, Stephen Patterson, became President and CEO of Central Valley Builders Supply and its affiliates, growing our operational efficiency as well as the service-oriented and customer-focused aspects of the business.
Central Valley expanded its agriculture division to Healdsburg, where we have a full selection of trellising, irrigation, pruning, harvest, and more vineyard supplies.
In 2014, Central Valley Builders Supply re-branded itself as Central Valley to reflect the diversity of our offerings, which include both building materials and agricultural supplies.
Central Valley acquired Foster Lumber Yard, with locations in Vallejo and Fairfield. This full-service lumber yard is the oldest continually operating business in Vallejo and has been serving Solano & Napa Counties for over 100 years.
In 2018 and every year after, Central Valley has been named one of the "Best Places to Work" by the North Bay Business Journal. We pride ourselves on being a place employees want to stay long-term.
In 2024, we acquired Caseywood in Grass Valley. Located at the heart of Nevada County, proximate to the Truckee and Tahoe regions of the Sierra Nevada, Caseywood provides building materials for a lot of custom projects, including lumber, trim, decking, fencing, windows, and doors.
It’s been our privilege to serve our passionate, dedicated customers for as long as we have, and we hope to continue well into the future. Today, we keep ourselves at the leading edge of the industry--expanding our capabilities and adopting modern tools and technology to improve our offerings, services, and customer experience.
